EXTENDED CARE (To skip and go right to products and services, scroll down):
Wear and tear takes a toll on all jewelry, as does extended storage. It’s just an expected part of owning jewelry! Over time, a leather cord might wear out, or a link might wear through. As with any natural material, metal and leather don’t last forever. Your local jeweler can make any repairs necessary, but we also offer many repair services in our extended care program. Check out our "Restoration Services" option at the bottom of this page.
Nearly all of our pieces are made from either .999 Fine Silver, or .925 Sterling Silver, or both. Though every piece we make is not only polished with anti-tarnish polish but also given an anti-tarnish bath, silver tarnishes no matter what. Perspiration or extended storage might accelerate natural tarnishing. Whatever the reason, tarnish happens and there are many things you can do to help inhibit it and get rid of it when it does happen.
Help keep the tarnish away:
Clean your jewelry! Natural oils in your own finger prints will be the first place tarnish will happen. You can buy an ultrasonic cleaner for the ultimate protection. Use half ammonia and half water (distilled is the best) to treat it in your cleaner or used the same combination to gently clean by hand (warm to hot water works better, but please don’t microwave your jewelry!).
We can not emphasize enough how important it is to invest in a great anti-tarnish polishing cloth. This is something no jewelry owner should be without! A quick rub can remove mild tarnish, help inhibit it’s return and will work with any kind of jewelry to shine it more than you imagine a little cloth could. When purchasing your cloth, do not assume they all have anti-tarnish protection. In fact, most do not. We sell "Our Favorite Cleaning and Polishing Cloth Ever" in our "Jewelry Care" collection which really is exceptional. You can find many different types of polishing cloths at regular strip-mall jewelers, but you will have a hard time finding any that are embedded with anti-tarnish solution such as these. We also offer many other care products as well that will help extend the life of all of your jewelry.
Keeping your jewelry away from humidity and direct sunlight when you store it will also help. Putting your silver in small plastic baggies will help to keep humidity away from it and will greatly decrease tarnishing when you are not wearing them. Specially designed jewelry bags can give you up to two years of tarnish protection with one seal! The ones we sell are embedded with "Silver-Guard" which provides the ultimate protection for your jewelry. You can also buy anti-tarnish paper tablets to put in your jewelry box or plastic storage bags that will help all your pieces stay shiny and tarnish free.
When tarnish happens:
Normal tarnish is a temporary condition and will not cause permanent damage your piece. If it will not come off using your quality anti-tarnish polishing cloth, you can buy silver cleaning tablets or plates at most hardware stores that will instantly remove any tarnish and most can be reused infinitely. After removing tarnish, or any cleaning, ALWAYS follow up with a quick rub with your polishing cloth. Not only will it shine it up beautifully, it will help your jewelry resist dirt, fingerprints, humidity and ultimately tarnish while you are wearing or storing it. It’s a good idea to use your cloth every day to continue the best protection possible.
Of course, you can always send your piece back to us for our affordable restoration service any time you like. For a $20 service fee, we will completely revive your piece back to it’s original mirror finish and give it another anti-tarnish bath to ensure longer life.
